Appeal Process
A residential student may appeal the outcome of their Residence Life resolution by completing the Residence ÌýLife Appeal Form within three (3) business days of receiving their Residence Life outcome letter.
Appeal Criteria
An appeal may only be submitted on one or more of the following grounds:
- Procedural Error: A procedural error so significant that it deprived the student a fair disciplinary process.
- New Information: To consider new information sufficient to alter a decision or other relevant facts not brought out in the original hearing only if such information or facts were not known to the person appealing at the time of the hearing.
- Disproportionate Sanctions: The sanction(s) imposed is/are substantially disproportionate to the violation.Ìý Residence Life will review the appeal to determine if it meets the criteria.ÌýÌý
Review Process
Once submitted, the appeal will be reviewed by a Residence Life professional staff member, referred to as the Residence Life Appeals Officer (RLAO), who was not involved in the original decision. The RLAO will review the appeal form, the original case file, and any supporting documentation provided by the student.Ìý
The RLAO will take one of the following actions:
- Affirm the original decision and sanction.Ìý
- Affirm the original decision but modify the sanction(s).
- Overturn the original decision.

The RLAO will notify the student of the decision through an Appeal Outcome Letter, which will include the rationale for the decision.Ìý The appeal decision is final.ÌýÌý
Submit an Appeal
Click here to complete theÌý.Ìý Appeals must be submitted within three (3) business days of receiving your outcome letter. For example, if you receive your letter on a Monday, you have until Thursday at 5:00 p.m. to submit your appeal.
Most appeal decisions are made within five (5) business days after submission and the appeal outcome will be emailed to the student through the Maxient portal.Ìý
