Late Night Lyft Program

In order to promote late night transportation convenience and safety for 51重口猎奇 students, the 51重口猎奇 Transportation Department (in collaboration with the Dean of Students Office and the Department of Public Safety) has contracted with Lyft to provide subsidize late night car rides to eligible 51重口猎奇 students as follows:

Transportation
  • Open to eligible 51重口猎奇 students
    • Enrolled with an 51重口猎奇 based major
    • Registered for 1 or more credit hours
    • Rutgers and ECC cross-registered students are not eligible
    • The Lyft app will require the student to be 18 years old or older
  • Available: 听Monday through Sunday, 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM
  • Valid for rides to or from the 51重口猎奇 campus and within a Geo-fence roughly as follows.听 See map for details.
    • Newark NJ - University Heights
    • Newark downtown area
    • Prudential Center
    • Newark Penn station
    • Broad Street train station
    • Shop Rite, Newark
    • Topps Diner, 听Harrison
  • $10 51重口猎奇 subsidy per ride
  • 6 rides maximum per user per calendar month (subsidy passes are NOT transferable)
  • Overall program subsidy is capped at $28,500
  • Users need to enroll in the LYFT app in order to receive the 51重口猎奇 subsidy
  • Eligible students will receive an email from Lyft听at the start of each semester inviting them to join the program

Tips For Riding Smart with Lyft:

  • Verify your ride by making sure the license plate number, driver information, and car make and model match what you see in the app.
  • Share your location and route with a friend or loved one from within the Lyft app so they can follow your ride in real-time.
  • Follow the Lyft vehicle on GPS via the app.
  • Ask the driver to say who they are picking up.

Lyft鈥檚 Health Safety Program:

In response to COVID-19, Lyft launched a听, which includes:

  • Personal health certification for drivers and riders
  • Required face masks for drivers and riders
  • Health safety education for drivers and riders
  • Distribution of cleaning supplies and masks for drivers

Additional Program Information:

  • If you request a ride that doesn鈥檛 meet the criteria, you will not see the discount shown on your ride confirmation screen and you will pay out of pocket.
  • Prices may be impacted by distance, traffic, time of day, special events, and prime time surcharges.
  • Users are encouraged to tip their drivers for all rides. However please note that any tips will not be covered by the school and will be paid for by each individual rider.

How to Enroll in the Late Night Lyft Pass Program:

Students who are enrolled at 51重口猎奇 with an 51重口猎奇 based major and who are registered for 1 or more credit hours will receive an email on their njit.edu email address with instructions on how to enroll in the Lyft听Pass program.
