NEST Research Lyft Program

In order to transport researchers between the 51ÖØ¿ÚÁÔÆæ Newark Campus and the 51ÖØ¿ÚÁÔÆæ NEST Research Campus (located at 2000 Galloping Hill Road, Kenilworth, NJ 07033 – building #15), the 51ÖØ¿ÚÁÔÆæ Transportation Department has contracted with Lyft to provide subsidize car rides to eligible 51ÖØ¿ÚÁÔÆæ researchers as follows:

  • Open to eligible 51ÖØ¿ÚÁÔÆæ researchers
    • Must be an active 51ÖØ¿ÚÁÔÆæ employee or 51ÖØ¿ÚÁÔÆæ student
    • Must have an active 51ÖØ¿ÚÁÔÆæ email address (@njit.edu)
    • Must be authorized by the research department’s Office of the Dean
    • The Lyft app will require the person to be 18 years old or older
  • Available: ÌýMonday through Sunday, 24 hours a day
  • Valid for rides between the 51ÖØ¿ÚÁÔÆæ campus and the NEST campus only.
  • Pick up and drop off locations MUST be within the geofences mapped below.
  • $40 51ÖØ¿ÚÁÔÆæ subsidy per ride
  • 20 rides maximum per user per calendar month
  • Researchers are encouraged to share rides with each other
  • Subsidy passes are NOT transferable
  • Users need to enroll in the LYFT app in order to receive the 51ÖØ¿ÚÁÔÆæ subsidy
  • Upon authorization by the research department, researchers will receive an email from LyftÌýinviting them to join the program

Special Instructions:

When scheduling a Lyft driver to pick you up at the NEST facility, please call the front guardhouse at (908) 460-9060 to let them know the type of car that is coming onsite to pick you up.Ìý The guards will direct the Lyft driver to building #15 upon arrival.Ìý This will help to maintain security on the NEST campus.

Tips For Riding Smart with Lyft:

  • Verify your ride by making sure the license plate number, driver information, and car make and model match what you see in the app.
  • Share your location and route with a friend or loved one from within the Lyft app so they can follow your ride in real-time.
  • Follow the Lyft vehicle on GPS via the app.
  • Ask the driver to say who they are picking up.

Additional Program Information:

  • If you request a ride that doesn’t meet the criteria, you will not see the discount shown on your ride confirmation screen and you will pay out of pocket.
  • Prices may be impacted by distance, traffic, time of day, special events, and prime time surcharges.
  • Users are encouraged to tip their drivers for all rides. However please note that any tips will not be covered by the school and will be paid for by each individual rider.

How to Enroll in the Lyft Pass Program:

Researchers who are authorized by their department’s Office of the Dean will receive an email on their njit.edu email address with instructions on how to enroll in the LyftÌýPass program.
